Search Engine Check List

1. Page Title. The page <TITLE> is by far the most powerful aspect.
Robots consider the <TITLE> of a page to be the most telling description of the content of a page. Note: this does not mean the first major heading on the page itself, it means the caption which appears on the title bar of your browser.

Write a descriptive title for each page. Remove as many "filler" words from the title, such as "the," "and," etc. This page title appears on the Web search engines when your page is found. Entice surfers to click on the title by making it a bit provocative. Place this at the top of the Web page between the <HEADER></HEADER> tags, in this format: I.E:<TITLE>Final Host --  Check List to Promote Your Site</TITLE>

2. List Keywords. Prepare a list of 50 to 100 keywords -- the kind of words that if someone entered one of these words, you would like him to find your site. Make sure that you do not repeat any word more than three times. Place those words at the top of the Web page, between the <HEADER></HEADER> tags, in a META tag in this format:
I.E:<META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="promoting, promotion, web presence, web design ...">
Some research on search engine algorithms indicates that a fewer number of keywords may help you better target the search words most important to you, if you're working to increase your page's ranking on the search engines.

3. Page Description. Select the most important 20 keywords, and write a careful 200 to 250 character (including spaces) sentence or two. You don't need to repeat any words used in the page title. Keep this readable but tight. Eliminate as many "filler" words as you can, to make room for the important words, the keywords which do the actual work for you. Place those words at the top of the Web page, between the <HEADER></HEADER> tags, in a META tag in this format:
I.E:<META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="Increase visitor hits, attract traffic through submitting URLs, META tags, press releases, banner ads, and reciprocal links">

4. Robot Meta Tag. Add this to your page. it will give you better ratings with the robot search engines:
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow">

If you are unsure if you have your meta tags correct please use our meta tag analyzer located here:
